Video Conferencing Around the World

The computer classes this year will attempt to contact at least 5 different schools around the world via video conference (specifically Skype.)!  Why?  It is a way to help our students become effective communicators, encourage global awareness and integrate Language Arts/Geography/Social Studies/Technology/Math curriculum.

Before each Skype call to a school we will:
  • research the culture/location of school
  • plan our questions
  • practice our call.
During the call we will have various roles assigned to students that will encompass:
  • documenting connection via still image (photographer)
  • documenting conversations during the connection (back channel writers)
  • timing the skype call
  • greeter (makes initial introduction)
  • sharing ( shares something special about class)
  • Q & A (asks specific questions for data collection)
After the call, students will:
  • edit back channel writing to save as document
  • blog about connection
  • create a word problem from data/questions/answers from call
  • use Google Map to find location on map
If you have a contact for us to use, please feel free to contact athill@crosslcmsschool.org.
